In fact, the study suggests that some computers can solve some needs for schools rather than the analysis of large opportunities.

To answer these and other questions related to the two technologies, El Debate spoke with Juan Ignacio Chirac, considered one of the fathers of quantum computing and director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany.

– What research are you currently doing in Germany?

We also work on developing software for quantum computers and how classical supercomputers can perform some quantum tasks without quantum computers.What we have learned in quantum physics allows us to accelerate and improve classical computers

- Being in an environment where Ai has completely changed the industry.Do you think quantum computing has the potential to match or exceed this short-term impact?

- It is very difficult to judge.Quantum computing is still "here": it's what we're building.We know that quantum computers can have an impact that cannot be quantified at this time because there are many unknowns.

– Artificial intelligence has developed rapidly in recent years, while quantum computing continues to develop at a more technical level.What scenarios can we expect when quantum computing becomes widespread?

- This is a tour, not a date of arrival.More powerful quantum computers are being created, but they cannot yet compete with classical computers.The hope is that eventually they will be able to supplement existing supercomputers for calculations that are not possible today.

- What steps should be taken to bring quantum computing to a level of maturity compared to AI?

-We get small promotypes that still do a small part and it goes wrong.You are entitled to correct errors that are larger.

- You mentioned that Most Competition will develop AI.So you don't see the technologies as competitors?

- They are not the most competitive among them.Ai will help us develop your Loom computer faster.And we hope that many computers in the future will help improve and speed up Ai.Although it cannot be confirmed yet.

The story that stands out is that digital computers know a non-negotiable message and that computer computers are the best play product for many people.

- What are some areas that AI can improve?

- It's hard to say.Any area where a lot of data needs to be processed.AI is also used in my scientific field and quantum computers will definitely improve it, but in other fields, it's hard for me to determine.

- AI presents ethical and security challenges.Will there be risks in the quantum future when quantum computing becomes more widespread?

- Like all technologies. Just as current computers are used for medical or military applications, so are quantum computers. Regulation is needed. While quantum technologies also offer new ways to secure communications, they can also break current cryptography. There are parts we like and parts we don't like.

- IBM's new quantum supercomputer was recently announced.Which regions and institutions do you think will lead the quantum race?

- There are many aspects.In hardware in the US, Europe and China.Each has its own advantages: industry, economic resources or scientific progress.There are also software and applications: there it is important to learn how to use quantum computers, as the Basque Country does.

-iai has risks and energy costs.Quantum computing, hardware challenges and stability.Faced with the greatest physical limitations in the long run?

- I don't like to state certainties without demonstrating them.We expect quantum computers to replace classical computers in certain jobs, either due to efficiency or lower energy costs.They should improve and provide benefits over time.

-In AI, the market is dominated by a small number of players.Does the same thing happen in quantum computing?

-It exists because there are many technologies.Depending on which technology wins, some companies or others will lead.But in the long run, as in other sectors, the big technology companies will make this business.

- At the beginning of a possible quantum era, what will be the first signs that we are entering this era?

- It would be a breakthrough if a quantum computer could detect messages that cannot be deciphered using classical computers.This would indicate its maturity.We hope that this will happen in the next five or ten years and maybe a little longer.

-Project yourself ten or twenty years: how can you imagine the relationship between AI and quantum computing? What will define society in the 21st century more?

- They are condemned to live together and will help each other.AI is already impacting us and will do even more.Quantum computing will speed it up and even find its own applications that we cannot foresee today.
